More couples than ever are celebrating the beginning of their life together in full Renaissance costumes. Here are some tips to get you started.

Perhaps she first caught your eye dressed in SCA garb, or maybe he looked dashing in his SCA armor. It could be that you were both wearing Renaissance costumes and enjoying a stroll through your local Faire when he captured your heart. Since then, time has passed and you’re ready to tie the knot. If you’re a fan of olden times, perhaps you’re thinking of having a medieval wedding.

If so, you’re not alone. More couples than ever are celebrating the beginning of their life together in full Renaissance costumes. And even the guests are getting in on the act, playing their parts and dressing in period garb. If your nuptials will have a medieval flair, you need the proper clothing and accessories. Here are some guidelines to get you started.

For Him

One of the most romantic looks for the groom is a cotton lace-up wedding shirt. For extra elegance, look for a shirt with rows of tiny tucks going down the sleeves and below the lace-up front. The shirts usually come in natural, black, and white, so he can wear the color appropriate to the season and time of day of your wedding. If he prefers a button front or you want a greater selection of colors, you can find a wedding shirt replete with tiny tucks that has three buttons going down the neckline. These shirts are often available in navy, grey, brown, mustard, teal, plum, wine, and forest green – one of which is sure to go with your wedding color scheme.

As for pants, depending on the season and time of day, you can opt for long twill breeches or knee-length twill breeches. The former are baggy, and usually feature both a button front and a drawstring at the waist, as well as drawstring cuffs. As the name implies, knee-length twill breeches have cuffs that tie just below the knee. You can typically buy them in a wide variety of colors, such as royal blue, tan, black, burgundy, or forest green.

For Her

For the Renaissance bride, it starts with the chemise. There are a wide variety of styles from which to choose, but one that’s popular features sheer fabric that has demi sleeves and a sweetheart rose at the center of the neckline. For a more formal touch, there are chemises that feature extraordinarily long, hanging sheer sleeves and a gathered neckline. Similarly, a chemise with metallic gold trim at the square neckline is eye-catching.

As for your gown, you can go with something as simple as a cotton twill surcoat or as ornate as an Irish dress with a fleur-de-lis brocade bodice. You may even want to create your own gown; if so, there are numerous patterns from which you can choose.

For Both of You

If you’re planning a medieval wedding, you’ll also need the proper accessories. Dragons symbolize passion, monogamy, and love, so incorporating dragons into the ceremony or reception is wonderfully appropriate. Perhaps you’d like to wear a dragon double heart pendant, or you would like to use two dragon goblets for your toast.

If you’re having a traditional ceremony, you’ll most likely need handfasting cords, which will be used to bind you and your beloved’s hands together with each promise you make to one another.

Swords

When it comes to swords, the options are virtually endless. Whether you’re outfitting your SCA armor or finding accessories for pirate costumes, it’s important to recognize that some swords are constructed for appearance, while others are forged for combat. In other words, you need to know whether you want a sword that is purely decorative, or one that will be effective in competitions and exhibitions.

Beyond that, there are a number of distinctive sword styles. Scottish Claymore swords, for example, are both heavy and long, and are usually stored in sheaths and carried over the back. The Claymore was initially a straight, double-edged sword featuring a cross hilt with the guards turned downward, but is also the name used for a basket hilt sword with a single edge.

When it comes to medieval swords, many people prefer legendary swords, designed after those carried by Joan of Arc, Richard the Lionhearted, Robin Hood, and others. Other people are inspired by mythic beings and fantasy warriors, and thus are drawn to fantasy swords, while those who want to be impeccable in their SCA armor choose accurate historical reproductions of swords that can cut through planks.

Daggers

When selecting daggers to complete your costumes, there’s a wide variety from which to choose. For example, there are stilettos, which were carried by the upper class in the 17th century, and the main gauche, which was used in the Renaissance as a left-handed weapon to defend oneself and which features an ornate hilt guard. In addition, there are eating daggers, which typically incorporate black antler or white bone handles, and bodice daggers, which are sewn into the bodice or corset. English-style daggers usually have a blade length of about ten inches, and often feature wire-wrapped handles.

Shirts: White Collars, Blue Collars, and others…

If you’re unsure about what color your collar should be – the short answer is to have options. Your choice of color is one of the most important considerations when choosing the style of your business shirt collar.

White Collars

For a white shirt, the collar should always be white and made from the same fabric as the rest of the shirt. The only exception to this rule is the tuxedo shirt which may incorporate another white (textured) fabric for the shirt front (bib) and the cuffs.

The white shirt was previously a uniform requirement at IMB and a plain white shirt still communicates efficiency, aptitude, and professionalism.

For stripes, checks and solid colors, Gordon Gecko’s contrast white collar is still a great look on Wall Street. A contrast white collar (with white cuffs) is all about the big city, big deals, and big money. If you’re visiting a big city from a smaller city, a contrast white collar can communicate that you’re a genuine player and not intimidated by the big smoke.

If, on the other hand, you’re visiting a smaller city from New York, the contrast white collar can be a big turn off to blue collar management. Gecko’s, “Greed is good,” mantra appeals to some, but not to all. You don’t want to come across as a slick, big city executive when you’re selling farming machinery in Arkansas.

Blue Collars

When dealing with manufacturing operations as well as businesses in smaller communities, a blue shirt (with a matching collar) is a staple ingredient in a businessman’s wardrobe.

Unlike the white shirt which often represents administrative efficiency, the blue collared shirt represents a connection with physical work, engineering, and problem solving. When visiting agricultural sites, a button down blue collar shirt (always worn with a single breasted jacket) conveys both respect and discretion – with or without a tie.

For those business situations that require your multi-faceted understanding of finance, administration, manufacturing, and sales, a light blue shirt will fit the bill.

There are a myriad plaids, stripes, checks, dots, weaves, and color combinations to choose from when you’re looking for a business shirt. If you don’t usually wear a tie, compliment a solid jacket (or suit) with a bright, colorful shirt. If you wear ties, ensure that your tie and shirt do not compete for attention. An easy rule of thumb is to wear plainer shirts with busy ties and plainer ties with busy shirts.

Each time you get ready for your office you have to look whether you have got the right neck tie with your outfit and how much does the knot suits your personality. You can’t ignore this fact that neck tie is the most perishable item in your wardrobe. It’s important that you take appropriate care of it so that it lasts longer.

General rules –
If you purchase three or more ties then it would be better as you would be able to wear them alternatively. This will save from damaging your tie that you would wear daily.

When you keep your tie in the wardrobe then you should hang it with the suit or outfit that goes with it by draping it around the collar of the coat.

While you wear the tie you should repeat the same tie after a gap of two or three days because this will prevent from unnecessary crease and wrinkles.

Storage rules ?
Always keep your neck tie in tie hangers (usually seen in shops) because these hold a single tie and reduce the chance of wrinkles.

You should never leave the ties with knots as it will crease the fabric of the tie and make it unmanageable next time when you wear.

Each time you open up your wardrobe try to move the ties you have hanged up because this will prevent from unnecessary creases.

When you return back home after a days long work remember to take out your tie knot and hang it properly.

Check if your tie is of silk fabric then hang it otherwise in case of knitted ties you should lay it flat or roll up and keep in a drawer instead of hanging it. Roll the narrow end of the tie first and leave it for a day or two as this will remove most of the wrinkles.

Cleaning rules ?
You should not give a tie away for dry cleaning because most of the cleaners remove the spots but at the same time they press the tie, in turn it compresses the lining and dulls the luster of the silk fabric. Never press your tie as this will diminish the overall appearance of the tie by making the “roll?at each edge a “crease?

If you have water spots on your tie you can easily rub that small end with a same piece of fabric on the spot or gently scarp the surface with your fingernail.

If you got stains on the tie you just need to dip a clean cloth napkin in club soda and then dab away the stained portion.

For tough stains, you should apply steam from an iron taking care that the tie fabric doesn’t touches the iron or you can hold the tie over a boiling kettle and then use dry spot remover as per the instructions on the pack. For something even tougher you can use spot remover such as carbon tetrachloride.

To remove grease, you can sprinkle a little talcum powder on the spot and leave it to absorb. After some time you can brush off the residue with the help of clean soft cloth.

Untying rules ?
When you untie your neck tie you should never slip the small end out of the knot which decreases its longevity.

Unknot your tie by taking it off by reversing it and never slip it over your head or remove it by pulling on the small end.

Never leave your tie unknotted when you remove them as it will cause permanent creases in the fabric.

However, the big question is: what makes a sexy bra? Is it the material, the design, the color, or the person who is wearing it?

Some of you might prefer to answer with the latter choice in mind. But nevertheless, sexy bra is still a bra and needs a little more positive characteristics to give you the support and comfort that you need.

Teens and preteens are looking for the immediate shopping gratification of purchasing clothing they can wear right now. “A good idea for parents is to split the back-to-school budget into summer and fall shopping trips,” suggests T.J. Maxx Fashion Spokesperson Laura McDowell. “Stock up on the trends for warmer weather now and then later add the sweaters, sweatshirts and other heavier items as the weather changes.”

The layered look is absolutely the top fashion statement. Start with lace camies and add dress-length shirts, deep V-neck sweaters and hoodies. You’ll be seeing up to three layers of various textures and pieces.

In August and September, gals will want to start with a tank or lace camisole and build upon the layering effect with the season’s hottest new favorite-the tunic. Tunics elongate the overall ensemble, with many ranging in length from 26 to 34 inches. Look for polka dots, florals and solids in muted shades such as gray, brown, olive and black. Tunics can be tank tops, short sleeved or long sleeved; the key is their length.

When it comes to bottoms, the long shorts will certainly continue to be a popular choice in early fall.
